Who we are
Mission Power was constituted near the end of 2021 to develop the next-generation inverter for utility-scale solar. Mission Power’s team consists of experienced scientists and technologists who have a history of success in developing transformational technology products. Before Mission Power, our team developed a high-power electric motors that were half the size of any others in the world and delivered them to Bosch, Siemens, and others. Mission Power is located in the shadow of Clarkson University where the founders have close relationships with many of the faculty and staff, enabling the infusion of even broader technical expertise into the company.
Dr. Russel Marvin is the President of Mission Power and has a history of growing impressive teams. Russel holds engineering degrees from Clarkson University and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) and is a serial entrepreneur. Formerly Russel was the Founder and CEO of LC Drives that developed large electric motors that were half the size of the best in the world. The company reached production sales with a complex manufacturing process and 100+ employees. Customers included Bosch, Siemens, and others. Prior to this, Russel was CEO of Optiwind where a novel wind turbine was developed that was lower cost than others in the segment. Other notable activities included being on the management team at Plug Power developing fuel cells through its successful Initial Public Offering (IPO). Russel has successfully raised over $40M in capital at his last two companies.
Matthew Honickman is Mission Power’s Chief Engineer. Matthew holds his BS degree from Clarkson University and is an expert in mechanical, electrical, chemical, and manufacturing disciplines. Matthew brings this cross-functional experience to this project and is the spark of many of the inventions at Mission Power. Matthew is involved in all technical aspects of the design. Matthew was formerly a Technical Lead at Commonwealth Fusion Systems (CFS) where he was immersed in Tokamak system design issues. Prior to that Matthew was Chief Engineer at LC Drives where he led a team of 40 engineers in the development of the design and manufacturing of an electric motor. These engineers included electrical, mechanical, and chemical engineers that developed some revolutionary designs. Many designs required removing heat from electrical components in aggressive ways. Matthew is comfortable developing technology from the first principles physics level to designing practical and manufacturable systems.
Leadership Team
Eric Schumann is Mission Power’s Head of Controls Engineering. Eric holds a BS in Computer Engineering from RIT and has an extensive background in microprocessor and FPGA implementation projects. Eric was formerly Senior Electrical Engineer at Density developing firmware and hardware for people counting equipment. Prior to that, Eric was Senior Electrical Engineer at LC Drives where he was responsible for development of a device to make a large electric motor into an Internet of Things (IOT) device. Eric is a serial entrepreneur that has demonstrated his ability to change the paradigm in multiple fields with his control expertise.
